Infoseek Competitor Identification

Overview: Learn how to determine who are your competitors according to search engines

Many search engines have enabled webmaster support such that website owners can easily determine which sites are related or similar to other websites presently indexed. Most webmasters don't realize this, but this is in fact a list of competitors as identified by search engines. Below, we demonstrate which trigger words search engines recognize, sample usage and other tips and tricks to out rank your competitors. In addition, we added a direct form such that you may perform a query directly from this page.

Infoseek Triggers
Search Engine: Infoseek (Read Our Submission Tips)
URL: http://www.infoseek.com (New Window Opens)
Special Trigger(s): http://www.go.com/Titles?cat=RES&svx=find_similar&fs=http://WWW.YOURDOMAIN.COM
Explanation: This trigger will indicate to the search engine that only pages indexed within the catalog that are similiar or "like" the page indexed on yourdomain.com should be returned. Infoseek will return to you a complete list of all pages that exist within the Infoseek catalog which are similar to the content featured on your site. This list may be quite long but generally, the top 20-50 results are your most prominent competition. The syntax for this command is the trigger name "cat=RES&svx=find_similar&fs=http://" plus your domain name. Please see the example below for additional help.
Tips and Tricks: Infoseek is often very picky when it comes to the URL that is entered to run a search against. From internal research, we've noticed that in order for Infoseek to correctly identify your website, you usually need to enter in the full website address you used when you submitted your website. Often this is in the form of either http://www.YOURDOMAIN.COM or http://YOURDOMAIN.COM. However, when we tried our domain name without the www (ie: http://submitcorner.com), no results were found. On the other hand, with the www (ie: http://www.submitcorner.com), Infoseek returned the results we were expecting. We suggest you tinker around with your URL until Infoseek finds an exact match.
Gain the Competitive Edge: Once you've determined who are your competitors, your ideal goal is to out perform their rankings. An easy fashion to determine how they're advertising in search engines is to view their use of META Tags and the other strategies we document on our website. Explore your competitors strategies and learn from them to gain the competitive edge. Tip: Once you've identified a competitor, try entering their URL into our META Tag Scanner and we'll identify for you which META Tags they are using.
Example: http://www.go.com/Titles?cat=RES&svx=find_similar&fs=http://www.submitcorner.com/ (View Results)
Try Your Site: Check out who are your competitors of your web site in this search engine. Enter your domain name in the box below and we'll display your results right away.
Notice: For best results, enter your domain name only such as www.submitcorner.com or submitcorner.com. Not all search engines accept a full URL to specific pages on your site.
Assessment Tools: Use our Assessment Tools and we'll query any search engine for you with a single click. Easily track down if your indexed, who's linking to you and who are your competitors from one consolidated form.
Other Triggers
Assess Your Site Indexing: Many search engines have enabled webmaster support such that determining if your website is catalogued can easily be done.
