Overview: Canada.com is a medium/large scale search engine which is targeted to Canadian users

Canada.com originally launched their newly re-designed site in mid-1999 and has grown to become a strong portal for Canadian users. Delivering nearly 68 million impressions per month to an audience of 3.5 million users, this portal is a valuable resource to address the Canadian market. Furthermore, Canada.com is powered on the Inktomi engine for their search database and therefore bears many of the same characteristics in getting your site listed as Hotbot (another Inktomi powered search engine). In addition to a search engine, Canada.com provides news, sports and weather addressed to the Canadian market.

Submission & Ranking Process

META Tags Canada.com makes extensive use of META tags, particularly the Keywords and Description Tag and the title of your page

Spidering Canada.com will spider or follow all links it finds on your website and index them into their database. You can control the degree of spidering through a standardized robots governing file or META tags [See Robots Generator]

No Abuse Tolerance Abusing META Tags or spoofing their search robot may get your website lower rankings or even blacklisted. Limit repeating keywords in the META tags

Additional Information Canada.com bases priority of search results on keywords found in your domain name, Title and your description META Tag. For example, keywords which are found in your title will be ranked higher than keywords found only in your description.

Submission Time Getting listed in Canada.com takes about 2 weeks

Insider Tips Canada.com is powered on the Inktomi engine, which also provides results for Hotbot, secondary results for GoTo and quite a few other search engines. This has the benefit that your site will appear on all the partnering websites as well once your site is indexed. However, most other partner sites such as Hotbot require 4-8 weeks to get listed. Submitting your website through Canada.com will get your site listed in about 2 weeks and will also get your site indexed on all partnering search engines, making it quite a large time saver when submitting your site.
